Brad Keselowski Gets NASCAR Fans Emotional With His Rags to Riches Story
A recent social media post sent NASCAR fans down memory lane. Team owner Brad Keselowski revealed his humble start in the sport as a tire guy for his family's team. His story of perseverance is a classic rags-to-riches tale.
One fan shared an image of Brad Keselowski on the pit road, but he wasn't in the car. It was a picture from 2002, when Keselowski was working with a pit crew. That's when Keselowski chimed in.
“So yeah, this was my start in NASCAR, tire guy/junior engineer for my family's race team. I was 18 and got a laptop for Christmas, and this was the best job to learn that also needed a CPU. My family's race team went out of business a few years later, and I floated from job to job until @DaleJr gave me my first full-time gig in 2007.”
While most fans remember his first entry into NASCAR in 2004, they often forget he started out as a crewman for his family team, Keselowski Motorsports. Just a few years later, Brad made his debut in the Truck Series in 2004, eventually moving on to the Busch Series. And just when he thought he found his big break working with Michael Waltrip, it didn't go through.
Fortunately for Keselowski, when Ted Musgrave got suspended, Keselowski filled in for him at a Memphis Truck race. In a race where he led the field, Keselowski found a voicemail from Dale Jr. after returning home.
"I didn’t get to talk to him that day because the way my flight was he was racing by then. I think I talked to him on a Monday or Tuesday after. Next thing I knew I was flying up to North Carolina and my world just flipped."
Dale Earnhardt Jr. offered Keselowski the opportunity to finish the season in the No. 88 U.S. Navy Chevrolet in 2007. The rest is history. Since then, he has won the 2012 Cup championship and has 36 career victories in NASCAR's premier series, including in the marquee Coca-Cola 600, Brickyard 400, and Southern 500 events
The story of Keselowski's journey left fans proud and eager to show their support.
Emotional Fans rally behind Keselowski
On X, NASCAR fans once again proved how much they admire talents like Brad Keselowski.
One fan celebrated the payoff from hard work. “And now look at ya. Perseverance wins out, and knowledge is gained. Think why buying rides doesn't make sense, but get it—another topic on another day. Love the Pic.”
Keselowski defined the story every NASCAR fan wants to see: a love for cars that eventually turns into a full-time career. Brad Keselowski went from working in a pit crew to help his team to becoming a NASCAR champion.
Another fan shared a personal tie from Bob’s era: “Always tried to help your dad out with used parts at a fair price. Sometimes I would say don’t worry about Bob. Your dad worked real hard to get to the track. You guys know that first hand.”
This fan referred to Brad's father, Bob Keselowski, who raced extensively in the 1990s Modified Tour, relying on such community support at tracks like New Smyrna Speedway to field cars.
Another fan wrote, “So cool to see your journey, from you watching your dad as a kid, to being old enough to work on the team in K Automotive’s most successful season, to Nationwide and Cup Series championships 10 years later, and to being a winning Cup Series car owner 10 years after that!”
He crewed K Automotive, late models in 2003, then debuted in Nationwide (now Xfinity) in 2007, won the 2012 Cup title with Penske, and co-founded RFK Racing in 2022.
One comment was not from a fan but from a family. From race-day memories: “We won that race, too.” Brian Keselowski, Brad’s brother, posted this, nodding to their family’s verified wins
Another fan commented, requesting him to narrate his raw journey story on a podcast. "That’s some tear-j****** stuff, man; you should discuss this in detail in a podcast someday. People would love to hear it, I am sure.”
