Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s team, JR Motorsports' win streak in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (formerly Xfinity) was broken at Rockingham Speedway. William Sawalich marked his first-ever win in the O'Reilly Series, driving the No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing. It raises an obvious question about the possibility of JGR's turning things around after a not-so-great start.

William's performance in Rockingham surely was proof that JGR swept this win with not luck, but sheer strategy, skill, and team effort.

"My sound gear GR Super was on rails basically through the whole race today," said Sawalich in a post-race interview with SiriusXM radio. "We didn't even have to touch it on our stops, and honestly, everything played out correctly, and I just feel like it was a good day for us."

This win is a huge deal because JGR didn't just win the race, but were unstoppable. By leading 83 out of 100 laps, it's clear that Team 18 might have found the force and momentum needed to outrun Earnhardt Jr.’s team. It's the first time this season that Joe Gibbs & Co has successfully stopped what many expected to be another JRM sweep.

The real indicator that the script might be flipped is the confidence William has in his car and the team.

"I mean, as simple as it sounds. I knew I could do it all along, but you know, obviously, reinforce it. I could win races," said the driver. "My team can win these races, and we always had the speed all along. It was just a matter of getting upfront."

The win was massive for Sawalich and JGR, as it helped preserve a long-standing record.

JGR Protects Its Own Record at Rockingham

The Rockingham win was much more for JGR than just breaking JR Motorsports' win streak this season. It was actually a move to defend the team's history. Before this weekend, JR Motorsports was on a five-race winning streak. They were knocking on an all-time series record of six consecutive wins, which is a record Joe Gibbs Racing has held since 2008.

By taking the checkered flag in Rockingham, William kept JGR's record intact at least for the moment.

The last race also changed the outlook for the coming races, as JGR proved that they can handle the pressure of competing on any track. Rockingham was a huge win, and the hope will be that the team carries the same momentum in the remainder of the races.
