Charles Leclerc's Monza weekend took a frightening turn after a horrific crash. He walked away, but not everyone was convinced that was the end of the story. Leclerc has now given an update on his health. And it's not the incident itself raising eyebrows. It's what he admitted worried him most in the moments after. 

Leclerc’s race on Sunday did not go as planned. While defending his fourth place from Oscar Piastri, his Ferrari lost rear-end grip while navigating Parabolica, resulting in a collision with the outer barrier on Lap 3. He walked out of the car on his own power. 

He was attended to by the trackside doctors as a matter of routine before being shifted to the medical center. After being released from the medical center, Leclerc spoke to the media, giving an update about his health.

"The neck was OK, it was just the vision a little bit at first," Leclerc said, as reported by Motorsports.com. "The right eye was not showing me great vision, but now it's all good, so that's the thing I was most worried of getting off the car."

Besides the issue with the eye, the No.16 driver reported he felt okay and was feeling a little sore, which is common after such high-speed impacts. 

"Then after that everything, a bit of pain here and there, which is normal after a crash like this, so nothing more."

Charles Leclerc further revealed that he will undergo additional checks to make sure he is 100% before heading to Madrid for the next round of the 2026 season. 

The crash was only a part of Leclerc's eventful afternoon. Before things went south at the Parabolica, he’d already been involved in a tense clash with his teammate Lewis Hamilton at the start of the race.

Before the race had even reached its second lap, Leclerc found himself at the center of another talking point. His opening-lap tussle with Hamilton for track position caused a fair amount of debate about who was at fault. 

Starting fourth, the No.44 driver dove down the inside of Leclerc, who had started third, as they approached the opening chicane. The two ran wheel-to-wheel through the corner, but Hamilton was squeezed out wide and ended up in the gravel on the exit.

However, no action was taken by the FIA for the incident. Karun Chandhok of Sky Sports further analyzed the incident and, while speaking to his fellow analyst Martin Brundle, Chandhok noted that Leclerc got the slightly better launch of the two, but Hamilton was able to draw alongside using the slipstream. 

As the cars converged into the braking zone, Chandhok explained, Leclerc was managing his own line and staying mindful of track limits rather than deliberately closing the door. Ultimately, Chandhok called Hamilton’s move risky. 

"But I fully agree with Martin, in the sense that you put yourself on the outside in a position of risk by trying to go around the outside of another car." Chandhok said as reported by Planetf1. "That’s always a risky move and a gap that is always going to close."

It was a tense start to the weekend for the Ferrari duo, one that would soon be overshadowed by Leclerc's crash just laps later.
