Chase Elliott Explains Why He Won’t Race Bill Elliott Again

The winner at Martinsville earlier this season, Chase Elliott, has made it clear that there is one person he doesn’t want to race again. While there have been several occasions when fathers and sons have taken the track together, Chase is unlikely to be seen on the same track as his father again.
Elliott, who currently sits 5th in the standings with 264 points for Hendrick Motorsports, was speaking to Kevin Harvick, who very recently raced against his own son Keegan, and the two got to talking about their experiences of racing against kin.
The Elliotts have one memorable shared moment on track when the father-son duo races each other at the 2021 SRX season finale at Nashville Fairgrounds. While the duo battled it out, putting on a show for their fans for much of the 77-lap race, it was Chase who came out as the eventual winner, with Tony Stewart splitting father and son on the podium.
Speaking on Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast, Chase said, “ The moment that we had in Nashville at the SRX race was so top tier that I almost don’t want to do it again.” He added, “We had so much fun with that, and I just don’t know that we could ever tee that up and have a night be more fun. I got to share the podium with him and Tony Stewart. Just so much about that was perfect.”
Chase said it was everything he had dreamt of when thinking about racing his father: the environment, energy, and crowd, along with getting to see his father race competitively again. The HMS driver said, "He got out of that car, and he looked like he had just run 875 laps here in 1985.”
Chase Also Reflected on His Bond With Bill
While the father has 44 wins in 828 races in a jaw-dropping 37 years, Bill Elliott is back to racing competitively, and he’s so busy, Chase says, “He’s a hard guy to keep up with.”
Bill Elliott drove Chase’s former Red Bull Pro Cup car during the SRVA Sebring SpeedTour before driving his 2005 Dodge Charger in Atlanta, and most recently, he competed at the Ten Tenth’s Motor Club IROC event against the likes of Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch.
Elliott said, “You don’t know where he’s gonna end up. I can’t keep up with him. He’s off racing stuff, driving cars, this and that all the time,” before adding, "If you can keep up with him weekly, you are doing something special.”
While he doesn’t want to race his dad again, Chase is thankful to have him around, as he further said, "Because I do think that is a really special thing to be able to share with somebody who, there aren’t any people in your life like that who totally get what you’re going through. And when that person is your date, that is a very rare thing.”
