The expectations from Connor Zilisch when he came to the 2026 Cup Series were massive. And why wouldn't they be? He dominated the Xfinity Series (now O'Reilly Auto Parts Series)last year with 10 wins. However, the transition to the top level has been a reality check.

The Trackhouse Racing driver is still searching for his first trip to Victory Lane in the Cup series. During a recent appearance on SiriusXM Radio, the rookie opened up about the challenges, and why he believes his attitude towards his team is more important.

"You got to walk out of those meetings with your chin up," Connor Zilisch explained. "If the other 180 employees see you walking around the shop with your head down, why would they want to work hard for you to make things better? It's kind of the whole culture."

For him, it is about maintaining a healthy team culture. The No. 88 Chevrolet driver insists his will to learn is something to be excited about at this stage, rather than chasing immediate results.

"I think that there's a lot to be excited about for what we're going to learn, and it's exciting," added Zilisch. "I wish I was up front winning races, but it's exciting to be a part of something that is challenging, and I have to work to make better."

While most rookies might feel the pressure at such a stage, Zilisch just wants to be optimistic.

"In my position, I feel like I have to look for the positives," he concluded.

Belief in a Generational Talent

Even during this challenging run, the leadership around Connor Zilisch remains fully confident in his future. Earlier this season, Rick Ware Racing's Tommy Baldwin pointed out that every great driver has to endure a learning curve before things click.

"There’ll be a switch. And he’ll be fine. He just has to go through this stuff, you know," Baldwin stated.

Trackhouse owner Justin Marks sees an even higher ceiling for his young driver. Marks has compared Connor Zilisch to icons like Tiger Woods or Lance Armstrong, athletes who didn't just win but actually changed the scale of their sports.

"What Tiger did for golf, Lance Armstrong for cycling, Conor McGregor in UFC, these guys transcend the sport and elevate it. Connor has that opportunity in NASCAR. Connor has that opportunity in NASCAR. He’s a generational talent, a compelling personality, and a great story. His ceiling is so high. He has the potential to be one of the biggest stars in NASCAR," Marks said.
