Hendrick Motorsports star, Corey Day, claimed his first win of the season after he won the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race, the Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega Superspeedway.

“I sure as h*** didn’t think it [first win] would be at a superspeedway," Day said after the race. “My 17 guys just built a rocket ship. “I feel like we’ve been close, had a good day at Rockingham, and had a couple other good days and just didn’t finish it off, so this is super cool.”

Driving the #17 Chevrolet Camaro SS for Hendrick Motorsports, Day scored the win in his very first full-time season in the competition, thanks to an incredible late-race twist.

With a couple of laps to go, Day, Sheldon Creed, and Sam Mayer were running three wide, but in usual fashion, Talladega had a twist. A contact in the final lap shuffled the pack as Mayer and Jordan Anderson Racing's Jeb Burton suffered the consequences, while Day, who had only led the final lap, won the race.

Day denied Brent Crews the win as Creed came home in third place to win the $100,000 under the Dash 4 Cash incentive in back-to-back race weekends. Sammy Smith and Jeremy Clements wrapped up in the top five.

Dean Thompson, Jesse Love, Brandon Jones, Parker Retzlaff, and Austin Green came home in the top 10. With that said, Corey Day claimed his first win and had a lucky charm in the garage today.

Former NFL Star Jason Kelce Joins Hendrick Motorsports Garage at Talladega

Former NFL star Jason Kelce was present at the Hendrick Motorsports garage during this week's Talladega Speedway race. He held the car marking sign and then helped with the gas canister.

Later, Kelce joined the pit team as he met Day after his burnout and then headed to the victory lane to celebrate the win with him.

"Super cool to have him. He's been a fan of the sport for a long time. it was cool that the 17 team could give him a behind-the-scenes this weekend," Day said. "... It was cool to meet him; he's a super cool guy and really down to earth. A lot of fun to have him here with us today."

Now, after 11 races, Justin Allgaier leads the championship with 544 points. Sheldon Creed and Jesse Love are in the second and third positions, respectively. Day is in fourth now, thanks to the win. The drivers head to Texas next weekend for Saturday's Andy’s Frozen Custard 340.
