Legacy Motor Club is on an upward graph and not only on track, but also off it. 

The team owned by Jimmie Johnson didn’t need any more star power in their ownership setup, and yet they have another celebrity owner coming in to bring big value to the brand in a non-racing capacity. 

As Guy Fieri, whose net worth is estimated to be around $100 million, comes in as a strategic owner to lead the team’s creative strategy, fan engagement, and lifestyle branding, Erik Jones was asked about his thoughts on the growing ownership group. 

In a video uploaded by Cup Scene on YouTube, Erik Jones was speaking to the media in Sonoma and said, “I think Jimmie has a vision for what he sees Legacy becoming as a team, and some of that involves the celebrity investment we’ve seen over the last couple of months, and I think there’s more to come on that side. It’s been fun to see. It’s fun to get eyes on the sport and people involved.”

The 43 LMC Toyota driver said that it’s nice to see celebrities getting into the ownership mix, and these are probably celebrities who are passionate about the sport. LMC owners aren’t just in the background; they often turn up at tracks, and Jones feels it’s a good showing of the team environment. 

He said, “We saw Darius out in Nashville. This weekend I think Guy’s making a stop at the track. That’s going to be pretty neat. It’s all at a nice time for us as a company. We’re running well and doing things well on the racing side, so getting the off-track stuff on a comparable level, I think, is going to be just as important here going forward.”

As a strategic owner, Fieri will oversee the team's creative strategy. From fan engagement and collaborative content to branding, his role will be to make the team's brand grow outside of pure racing.

While Jones expressed his excitement with the buzz around the team, he would be happy with where he is personally as well. 

Erik Jones: a serious Chase contender

As Legacy Motor Club continues on its journey as an independent Toyota team, Erik Jones has been putting on a solid performance in the 43 car. 

Jones picked up 17 points in successive road course races with Legacy’s limited inputs for the simulator. Jones is right on the edge of the Chase spots, currently in 17th on the points table. 

He is 12 points away from Austin Cindric in 16th and 13 off Ryan Preece in 15th. He has been on a consistent point-scoring streak since Charlotte, where he finished 13th with 30 points. 

He finished in 11th with 26 points in Nashville before picking up his season’s best finish of 2nd with 44 points in Michigan. In Pocono, he finished 6th and picked up another crucial 41 points, 

Jones knows that he is currently LMC’s best shot at having a car in the Chase with John Hunter Nemechek down in 27th.
