Former Kaulig Racing driver Daniel Dye is set to make his NASCAR comeback in the Cup Series. The 22-year-old racer was suspended by NASCAR in March after he made insensitive comments about IndyCar driver David Malukas on a live stream.

However, after he underwent sensitivity training, the series reinstated him. Though he chose to resign from Kaulig Racing voluntarily, Dye will now make his comeback this weekend. Live Fast Motorsports announced the 22-year-old as their driver for the No. 78 Chevrolet at the upcoming race at the Jack Link's 500 at the  Talladega Speedway, and three others.

Daniel Dye recently appeared on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, where he discussed his suspension and the road ahead. He said:

"We can bring it up. Me being an idiot opened up my schedule a little bit, but it also opened up my head to get my head back on my shoulders, and get back to being focused on what is really important to me, and that’s being a race car driver. It's not all the extracurriculars like doing live streams or whatever it may be on social media."

This past weekend, Daniel Dye made his comeback in the ARCA Menards Series Tide 150 at Kansas. He finished the race in second place. In his comeback with LFM, he will be racing Talladega (April 26 & Oct 25), Pocono (June 14), and Daytona (Aug 28)on a four-race deal.

Daniel Dye opens up on "dark" phase and mental struggle

Daniel Dye has combined 97 starts in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, where he has amassed a combined 20 Top 10s. However, after the suspension, he admitted he was in a "dark place" mentally.

Dye also spoke about how he found himself doubting his future in the sport. He said, "I struggled quite a bit with, ‘Okay, how bad do I really want to race? Is it time to give up?' That didn’t last very long, because this is everything that I love."

Daniel Dye's Cup Series debut will be one to watch out for. Besides the obvious performance pressure, there could be scrutiny of his unfortunate controversy and suspension.
