Daniel Dye has had a volatile start to his 2026 NASCAR campaign. He went from being a full-time Truck Series racer with Kaulig Racing to getting suspended before returning to make his Cup Series debut at the iconic Talladega Superspeedway.

NASCAR indefinitely suspended Dye in March after he made controversial comments about IndyCar driver David Malukas on a live stream. He had to undergo a mandated sensitivity training, after which he was reinstated. However, he voluntarily resigned from Kaulig Racing, which replaced him with Corey Lajoie.

Fast forward to late April, Live Fast Motorsports signed him for four Cup races this season. The first of those was the Jack Link's 500 at Talladega, where he finished 24th on debut.

Speaking to Frontstretch, Dye said, "Generally great day. I’ve had a lot of fun learning from all the Cup guys, just trying to learn as much as I could all day."

Dye ended up two laps down after a speeding penalty. "A really great experience all day. I felt like I learned a lot. The Cup cars were a blast to drive. Really, really fun race car."

Dye's part-time driver responsibilities in the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro include three more races: Pocono on June 14, Daytona on August 28, and finishing with the team on October 25 at Talladega. Dye said he’s looking forward to the experience at a different track like Pocono.

Daniel Dye is used to driving shorter races in the Truck Series. Going into Talladega, a full 500-mile race was a significant step up.

However, when he was asked about whether the race took a physical toll on him, he answered in the negative.

"The difference in distance for the race, I mean, honestly, the creature comforts in these cars, the chill-out unit, the cool shirt, and the helmet fan, like dude, I feel like I just ran a fifteen-minute truck practice without any of those things," Dye said. "Just the forces, the G-forces and stuff going through the corners is the only thing that my body is feeling."

It was also Dye's first experience of the fuel-saving tactics used in the Next Gen car in the Cup Series. Asked if that was difficult to adapt to, Dye said, "The fuel saving stuff was obviously a little bit different, but not super complicated. I did a lot of homework on that specifically leading up to this race."

While Daniel Dye's next race is at Pocono in June, the Cup field heads to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend for the Würth 400 presented by LIQUI MOLY.
