Daniel Suarez Opens Up on Long-Running Rift With Ross Chastain

Daniel Suarez has had conflicts with many drivers over the years, but the most infamous and the longest one remains with his former teammate Ross Chastain.

During an appearance on Kevin Harvick's Happy Hour, Daniel Suarez recently admitted he was never friends with him to begin with. Their relationship felt like a rollercoaster before he eventually departed for Spire.

“To be honest, it was a little bit. I mean, Ross and I, we were never friends. We’re teammates,” Suarez said.

“And I felt like it’s especially the last year, I feel like things got a little bit weird, you know, but not just with him, with several other people as well. And he was just part of that, you know, but 100% honest, like I was very surprised with the stuff that he said, you know, like… for me, he was like just one more competitor, but I didn’t have anything against him,” he added.

The 34-year-old driver further spoke about how he never realized that the two of them had animosity. “No, I didn’t know we were enemies, but I guess we were. I don’t know. But you know, you know, it’s just what it is,” he added.

Their latest confrontation was seen this year at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where Chastain shoved Suárez on pit road after a tense on-track battle. Suarez confronted him after getting out of the car, and they both exchanged heated words.

Chastain also has a similar sentiment for him. After the Vegas incident, he said, “Before this weekend, we don't get along, and that goes back longer than this weekend, and we got through the end of our time together when we were teammates, but I don't think it's bad that I don't get along with everybody,” Chastain said.

After joining Spire earlier this year, the #7 driver has been putting up decent performances as he has bagged three top tens in the last 12 races. However, a new teammate feud seems to be on the horizon for the driver after the race at Watkins Glen.

Will history repeat for Daniel Suarez?

Carson Hocevar has been putting up a spectacular race this season so far. Coming off the victory at Talladega, Hocevar seemed ready to put up yet another amazing race before it all came undone during a battle on track with his teammate.

The two teammates made contact during this race, sending Hocevar to the back of the pack. With the frustrations riding high, the #77 driver took to the radio to express how he felt about the incident.

“I’m never letting Daniel go again,” Hocevar said over the radio. “He can go [expletive] himself. He doesn’t have to run into me.”

This was not the first time the two made contact. Before becoming teammates during the race at Martinsville in October last season, Suarez made contact with Hocevar, which sent him spinning.

Given their history, the latest contact could be the beginning of another heated rivalry for Suarez.
