Daniel Suarez’s Subtle Swipe Rekindles Trackhouse Tension

Daniel Suarez isn't letting his past at Trackhouse Racing go quietly. Now with Spire Motorsports, a recent interview ahead of the Bristol race saw the driver take a subtle swipe at his former team's structure, adding fuel to an already tense on-track rivalry.
Currently driving the #7 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, the Mexican driver is sitting 16th in the championship ahead of the race in Bristol.
Suarez has only won with Trackhouse, despite his early years with Joe Gibbs Racing, Stewart-Haas, and Gaunt Brothers Racing. Suarez joined Trackhouse in 2021, and in 2022, he became the first-ever Mexican-born driver to win a Cup Series race at Sonoma. He followed that with another victory, winning in Atlanta in 2024, when things were still going well.
During his time at Trackhouse, he saw drivers like Shane van Gisbergen and Ross Chastain join and have a meteoric rise, while he felt he was becoming less important to the team in 2025 when Connor Zilisch started making a breakthrough.
Speaking to journalists at Bristol Motor Speedway, when Claire B Lang asked him about how Suarez feels Spire is going to become a powerhouse, Suarez flipped the question. His answer included a swipe at Trackhouse.
“This sport, and really business in general, is everything about people. You can have the best business ever, but if you don’t have the right people, you don’t have anything right?” Suarez said. “And it’s also about having the right structure in place. I believe that Spire has a great group of people, and they have the right structure to take advantage of those people.”
The dig at Trackhouse came when he added “Also you can have the best people ever, but if you don’t have the right structure and the right system in place, it’s not going to work. You have to put all the pieces of the puzzle together.”
Suarez's Battle with Trackhouse Drivers
In Las Vegas, Suarez and Chastain got a bit too close on the track and seemed to get ever closer with some pushing and shoving, along with a heated exchange of words spotted post the race earlier this year.
Across all the races, there seems to be something building up between Suarez and SVG, against whom Suarez has been particularly aggressive.
However, SVG currently sits 7 points above Suarez in 14th place. Ross Chastain, however, has some catching up to do with 136 points; he is currently 31 points behind Suarez.
Daniel Suarez starts the race for Spire in 13th, while Chastain starts 6th and SVG starts from 33rd in their respective Trackhouses at Bristol.
Watch out for some wheel-to-wheel action if these drivers get close on track.
