Dickerson rejects 'shortcut' claims in ongoing JGR trade secrets case
The legal battle involving Joe Gibbs Racing, Christ Gabehart, and Spire Motorsports has further deepened. Spire team owner Jeff Dickerson recently issued a blunt response to the allegations made by JGR.
Earlier this year, Gibbs sued Spire Motorsports in federal court. The lawsuit alleged that JGR's former Competition Director, Chris Gabehart, stole trade secrets, including technical information, and gave it to his new team at Spire.
The JGR lawsuit has been in progress for months now. However, Jeff Dickerson recently responded to the allegations made by JGR. While speaking to NASCAR reporter Jeff Gluck, the Spire Motorsports co-owner said:
"It is tough sitting in court and being called a liar and a thief and a cheater. And every time that a judge has asked for any evidence, they have produced nothing. That part is tough because this whole sport has watched us grow up. We've done everything the right way, everything. We have taken no shortcuts. So when we hear in court that we’re trying to take a shortcut, man, it's tough. It’s tough to hear sometimes."
He further claimed that JGR was trying to undermine the work of 175 people at Spire Motorsports by entirely attributing the team's recent success to Gabehart and the allegedly stolen JGR data.
"They've called us a lot of things, and we hear it. If the point is to try to hurt us or try to burn us down, okay. I don’t think they’re gonna beat us. They might win something, but I’ll make sure they wish they hadn't," Dickerson further added.
Earlier this month, Gibbs filed a petition for expedited discovery to prevent the loss of evidence, which in this case is the texts between Gabehart and Dickerson. Consequently, the judge issued a restraining order, ruling that Gabehart will no longer serve the same duties at Spire as he did at JGR.
Denny Hamlin fires back at Jeff Dickerson's argument amid JGR lawsuit
Denny Hamlin issued a sharp response to Jeff Dickerson's sub-seven-minute interview segment about the JGR lawsuit that Jeff Gluck posted on X.
The three-time Daytona 500 winner defended JGR, the team he has been driving for his entire 21-year Cup career, writing:
"Yeah, okay buddy. You hired someone who stole tens of millions worth of information, lied about communications y'all had after you deleted them, and now is getting paid double to work on your truck program? GTFO. What was it you called Richard again? Was it you who was leaking information after RTA calls?"
After Carson Hocevar won his first Cup race at Talladega on Sunday, Spire Motorsports mocked JGR on X. The team created a mock court filing, emphasizing that the team now had two Cup wins, as opposed to JGR repeatedly highlighting in court filings how the team had only one Cup win.
Both parties still remain divided on when the trial should begin.
