F1 Italian GP full updates and results ft. Antonelli's brilliant victory
The 2026 Italian Grand Prix, held on September 6, was a race to remember for home favorite Kimi Antonelli, as he fought back from 19th on the grid to win at Monza. It was a stark contrast to Charles Leclerc, whose race ended before he'd even completed two laps.
At the start of the race, Gasly led the pack from pole, but the race was interrupted early when Leclerc crashed heavily at the Parabolica. Coming under pressure from Oscar Piastri, the No. 16 driver lost the rear of his Ferrari and slammed into the outer barrier. This brought out the red flag to clear the debris and repair the barrier.
On the restart, Antonelli began carving his way through the field from the back. For much of the middle stint, Russell held the lead from the front row. However, a well-timed Virtual Safety Car allowed Antonelli to pit for fresh tires while Russell stayed out on worn rubber.
From there, Antonelli did not look back, hunting down his teammate and completing the winning move on Lap 50 of 53, as reported by Formula One. Max Verstappen ran a similar strategy to take third place on the podium.

Further back, Lando Norris overtook his teammate Oscar Piastri on the last lap and brought their McLarens home in fourth and fifth.
Lewis Hamilton finished sixth after his own early clash with Leclerc at Turn 1, while pole-sitter Pierre Gasly settled for seventh.
Arvid Lindblad, Franco Colapinto, and Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the points to complete the top 10.
The victory carried extra weight in the title fight, with Antonelli extending his championship lead over Russell to 66 points.
It also marked a piece of history for the young Mercedes driver, who became the first Italian to win his home Grand Prix since 1966.
