F1 2026 Azerbaijan GP Complete and Standings as George Russell takes the GP win

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix added another twist to an unpredictable 2026 season, with Baku's streets serving up plenty of drama. As the dust settled on a race full of crucial moments, George Russell had plenty to celebrate, but his result was only part of the bigger picture. Here's how the rest of the field fared.

Russell turned a dominant Friday pole into control from lap one and opened up an 11-second lead by lap 31, with Oscar Piastri holding up the chasing pack. However, that gap disappeared when Alex Albon crashed, triggering the first Safety Car.

The restart turned chaotic: Franco Colapinto collected teammate Pierre Gasly, who was pitched into Lando Norris, ending all three drivers' races. In post-race media, Norris didn't mince words when asked about the incident.

"At the end of the day, I got taken out, just some drivers who shouldn't be in F1, to be honest," Norris said as reported by the BBC.

Colapinto admitted it was his mistake and apologized to both the drivers.

"Very sad and disappointed. Big, big sorry, big mistake. Big sorry to both of them [Gasly and Norris]."

Verstappen used the disruption to his advantage, slicing from eighth on the grid to sit right behind Russell when the race resumed with 13 laps left. A second yellow flag, triggered by Valtteri Bottas beaching his Cadillac on the final lap, threw off Russell's energy deployment at the worst possible moment, giving Verstappen one last shot that fell 0.196 seconds short.

Isack Hadjar took third, sealing Red Bull's first double podium since China 2024. Charles Leclerc finished fourth, and championship leader Kimi Antonelli recovered from a qualifying crash and 16th on the grid to take fifth, calling it one of his toughest weekends of the year.
