Carson Hocevar looked poised to pick up the win at the NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta on Sunday before the race slipped away from him. He was left without any help from his fellow drivers to take on eventual winner Ryan Blaney.

The Spire Motorsports driver started the Quaker State 400 at EchoPark Speedway in 14th place. However, he managed to make up places throughout the stages, keep a clean race, and put himself in the top five.

He led the race in the final few laps, but he could not defend his lead from the alliance that had formed behind him between Ryan Blaney, Bubba Wallace, and Christopher Bell. In a post-race interaction with the media on pit road, Hocevar admitted he knew that the drafting would not work in his favour.

"I don't know where the Chevys went, but it was just me," he said via Frontstretch. "I was all alone. Even for Ryan, there were no Fords up there, so we were kind of just trying to help each other a little bit. So the second I came off of two, and I knew I was like three wide, and they had the opportunity."

According to the No. 77 Spire Motorsports driver, the final laps came down to who received the push rather than the faster car. He said,

"People basically are going to choose who's going to win the race. They sure as hell are not going to pick me, so no, I don't feel like it slipped away or anything."

Carson Hocevar eventually settled for fourth place before being promoted to third after Bubba Wallace was hit with a penalty post-race.

Despite falling short of the victory, his raw pace to match the frontrunners without any help earned him applause.

Under the post shared by Dirty Mo Media on their X account, questioning whether the Spire Motorsports driver’s attitude towards other drivers is what left him without any help, the fans flooded the comment section with their opinions.

One fan commented that it was mostly due to no Chevrolet car upfront that contributed to his losing out. They wrote, 

"I think it had more to do with having no Chevy's upfront to help him but having Bell who he has beef with and wrecked out in the past probably didn't help."

While another fan agreed with the take, they also praised Carson Hocevar. They wrote, 

"Yes, but it shouldn’t encourage him to change his behavior. He crossed the line 4th at a superspeedway with absolutely no drafting help as the only Chevy in the top 5. Even though Bell pushed Blaney. He’s just fine lone wolfing at drafting in 2026 and thats a miracle."

Another fan came to the No. 77’s defence as he pointed out how no driver helped him. They commented, 

"I was told I was an idiot for this take on TikTok. Even if it wasn’t a conscious decision by the drivers it’s still not crazy to say that drivers wouldn’t be lining up to help Hocevar win a race. Especially considering the contact he made with Bell Atl spring race."

Yet another fan shared a similar sentiment and pointed out how Hocevar was on pace with Blaney without any help.

"If you watched the whole race and focused in on it he was every bit as fast as Blaney. No one would pull down and help him. He got absolutely no help. All race long I was watching thinking when it got the end it would be different but people would rather lose than help him."

Another highlighted how the Toyotas of Bell and Wallace would rather help Ford than Chevrolet. Because Chevy had six wins this season compared to Ford's one, and Toyota wouldn't want to let Chevy get too close to its tally of 12.

"No, I think he was surrounded by Toyotas with no interest in helping a Chevy, honestly if Blaney and Bubba weren’t buds Blaney may have not had a push to the front either?"

Ryan Blaney started on pole, won both stages, and the race after leading 171 of 263 laps.
