Fingers Raised at Richard Childress Over RCR’s Crumbling Future in NASCAR

Apr 1, 2026, 12:54 AM CUT

The woes for Richard Childress Racing have been deepening this season. The team went from being one of the most prominent teams in NASCAR to being the most talked about for the wrong reasons.

The team has been under scrutiny for quite some time now, as they last won the Cup Series in 2025 with Austin Dillon. The 80-year-old team owner has been in the spotlight quite a lot during the 2025 season for various controversies.

The NASCAR fans have now started pointing fingers at Childress as the organization seems to be crumbling under his authority. This has put the team's future in NASCAR at stake.

NASCAR Fans Weigh In

One Reddit user wrote, “RCR has always been "RCR", they simply had a 30ish year run where they had a championship contender in their building to cover up these issues.” They added “The mystique was broken when Harvick went out an won a title in his first year out of Welcome. Ryan Newman in 2014 being the only Top 10 finish for an RCR car, since Happy left, has driven home the reality that Earnhardt and Harvick were the only thing keep this team above water.”

Another fan opined “it’s not gonna change until pop pop hands over the keys to a Dillon."

Other NASCAR fans said, “Richard is stubborn. The end. Until he’s not running the show, this is how it will be."

Yet another fan wrote, “I think them trying to be the 'outsiders' and operating away from everyone else is killing their ability to hire the best people.”

The rumors about Austin Dillon taking over the leadership have been circulating in the NASCAR garages for a while now. Many of the fans think this might be a wise decision.

Do you agree Austin Dillion taking over the leadership at Richard Childress Racing could save the organization from exiting NASCAR?. Let us know in the comments.
