When Greg Biffle was announced as NASCAR’s Hall of Fame nominee for the third time in March, it seemed like his name would finally be passed for the Hall of Fame. But that was not the case. 

On Tuesday, the voting panel, made up of former drivers, journalists, and NASCAR executives, convened at the Charlotte Convention Center. The modern era ballot included Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton, who were picked. 

From the get-go, Harvick was the shoo-in candidate, but it was Burton that left fans taken aback. This reaction comes in after the majority of the fans voted for the late Greg Biffle.

Harvick won the ballot by nearly 92% votes and was closely followed by Burton, Neil Bonnett, Randy Dorton, and Biffle in fifth. With the fans' vote counting as one vote, the results didn't go in their favor. 

Known as ‘The Biff,’ he kicked off his career in 2000 after he won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series. Followed by the O’Reilly championship in 2002, which made him the only driver to win in both series. 

He might not have won a championship, but he has had 19 race wins in 515 race starts. He was also named as NASCAR’s 75 greatest drivers. 

When comparing Burton’s career to Biffle's, the NBC presenter has had 21 cup wins, which is two more than Biffle’s, but those came across 695 starts. Nor does Jeff Burton have a championship title to his name. 

Beyond his record on the track, the Biffle was loved by the fans for his humanitarian work. He helped those affected by Hurricane Helene in 2024. 

It is not to discredit the work put in by Burton, but it comes as an utter shock that he beat Biffle amid the outpouring support he received from the fans. 

However, the Hall of Fame honor is not the only thing that was 'stolen' from Biffle this year.

Shortly after their passing, multiple fraudulent activities took place on the Biffles’ accounts. Around $30,000 in cash, two Glock handguns and NASCAR memorabilia were stolen. Investigators reported that friends of the driver stole money through various online transactions. 

The investigators believe the suspects broke into the late driver's house just a few days after his death. They have also captured a woman entering the Biffle house and walking away with several bags. 

According to authorities in NC, more than 40 search warrants have been issued and the focus is on a married couple who knew the Biffle family.

Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said that the suspects did "a lot of planning in an attempt to make a financial gain" off their deaths.
