With the grid almost set for the upcoming 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season, the attention has shifted towards drivers without a confirmed ride. One of them is Alex Bowman, who has given his honest verdict about his future with Hendrick Motorsports. 

The Hendrick Motorsports star has had a woeful 2026 season so far. Barely four races into the season, he was hit with symptoms of vertigo at COTA on March 1. Following this, he was sidelined for four races, losing out on crucial points for the championship. However, even after his comeback, just three top-tens haven't done much to strengthen his case. 

Despite all of the chatter surrounding his future, Bowman remains calm. During Tuesday's video conference, in response to reporter Claire Lang's question about his future, he replied:

"I feel okay. I think, for me, I just want to make the right decision for myself, I guess, and certain things haven't gone how we want them to go. Honestly, I'm at a point in my life where I'm super blessed to be in a position where I don't have to do this forever."

Elaborating on how he has faith in the team and sharing his mindset about the decision, Bowman added:

"I got to make the right decision, and I want Hendrick Motorsports to make the right decision and kind of everybody to be on board with whatever we do. Yeah, I have a lot of faith in Rick, Jeff, and everybody to kind of guide all of us the right way, and whatever happens happens.

He also emphasized that the thoughts about his future are "not the number one thing" on his mind all the time.

At the moment, Alex Bowman is looking to break his winless streak, which has been going on since his last win at the Chicago Street race in July 2024.

Interestingly, the upcoming race on the 4th of July weekend is at Chicagoland Speedway, where Bowman had taken his first career Cup Series win back in 2019. It will be interesting to see if he can end his winless drought there. 

Will Alex Bowman get a chance to repeat his 2019 heroics at Chicagoland? 

As NASCAR heads into Chicagoland, Alex Bowman stands as the last driver to win at the Speedway. During his first Cup win at the 1.5-mile tri oval, he battled with his now-HMS-teammate, Kyle Larson, who drove for Chip Ganassi Racing back then.

While reflecting on his win at the speedway during the pre-race conference, Bowman said (via NASCAR.com):

"It feels like a really long time ago. I’m definitely looking forward to getting back there.”  

Bowman also spoke about how, like most of the field, he has no experience on the track in the Next Gen cars, which were introduced in 2022. 

“I just think it’s going to be tricky with the Next Gen car,” Bowman said. “That place is slick, so you’re going to be sliding around a lot, which the Next Gen car is just inherently hard to slide much without it getting away from you."

A return to the familiar track should help Alex Bowman and the No.48 team get back on track.
