Jeff Gordon admitted he was overwhelmed after seeing the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum's tribute to his career. He credited Roger Penske and the museum staff for creating what he described as an unforgettable experience.

The four-time Cup Series champion reflected on walking through the new exhibition dedicated to his racing journey. Gordon said he had expected to see a collection of cars and memorabilia, but the scale and attention to detail exceeded his expectations.

"I'm blown away," Gordon told the media as reported by Indystar.com. "All these helmets have been sitting in cabinets and warehouses for years. So to see them out on display where I get to see them and then to get to experience this with my son, my parents ... this is a really special day for me."

In the same interaction, he added, “I look at this room and walk through the timeline, and that's what comes back is just all the dreams and the hard work and everything paying off."

In his long career, aside from his many accolades, Gordon is a five-time Brickyard 400 winner at Indianapolis, including the inaugural one in 1994.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, owned by Roger Penske, would celebrate Jeff Gordon’s legacy with a new exhibition opening on July 1, just ahead of the Brickyard 400 returning to the Speedway. 

Open until February 2027, Visitors will get to see 13 cars that defined Gordon’s career, ranging from a 1985 sprint car to stock cars that won the Brickyard 400, Daytona 500, and Coca-Cola 600, featuring his iconic No. 24 rainbow and flame livery. 

Also on display will be his first-ever trophy from a bicycle race in 1976, the firesuit from his first sprint car win in 1986, the Williams F1 steering wheel from his famous swap in 2003 with JP Montoya, along with 70 of his helmets that will be shown as art pieces, among many other things. 

A Days of Thunder sequel has been green-lit!

There have been talks around a Days of Thunder sequel for a while, which were further heightened after Jeff Gordon’s comments during a post-race press conference at Martinsville. 

At the time, Gordon had said, “I saw Tom one or two years ago. He actually brought it up then. We were just laughing a bit. He said, ‘No, I’m serious, this is going to happen.’ When Tom Cruise says that, you take it seriously.”

Now, The Hollywood Reporter, along with many other publications, has reported that Paramount has roped in Jonathan Levine to direct the sequel, while Tom Cruise appears set to reprise his role. 

The original movie from 1990 had characters based on real-life NASCAR figures. Tom Cruise’s character, Cole Trickle, is based on Tim Richmond, who drove the No.46 Chevrolet, and later the No.51 Mello Yello Chevrolet.

Cole’s No.46 car is sponsored by City Chevrolet, a real-life car dealership owned by Rick Hendrick.
