Kyle Larson has never been one to shy away from a tight schedule. However, his recent interaction on an episode of SPEED with Harvick and Buxton revealed a moment of introspection and some strategic time away from racing.

The two-time Cup Series champion admitted that exhaustion from his IndyCar and Cup Series commitments led him to skip the Adelaide 500.

“Last year, so I did the Indy stuff, but really all year I was looking ahead to like planning to do the Adelaide Supercar stuff. Then, the more it just got a little closer, I was just like, man, I'm burned out right now."

Larson was slated to participate in the Australian Supercars event as a wildcard as part of PremiAir Racing. He even had an attempt in the Jason Pryde Motorsport sprintcar. However, he ended up pulling out following his attempt at the Double, when he crashed out of both races.

"I need to focus on my family and just kind of recharge, and not go straight into the offseason of being in Australia for three weeks, then come home for a week, then go back to Australia to race the car. So, I ended up not doing the Adelaide thing,” Larson said.

Not everyone can come and dominate multiple racing disciplines like Shane Van Gisbergen. However, with multiple interests outside of NASCAR, Kyle Larson’s approach seems inspired by that of SVG’s, as he looks to compete in the Supercars Championship eventually.

He did not rule out a potential return to the Supercars Championship, but at a point when he steps back from full-time racing.

“Maybe something like that in the future, when my racing career slows down more, would be fun. But outside of that, I don't really have any thoughts or bucket list, you know, race cars or events at the moment. I think that sort of stuff will probably come when I'm done full-time racing and I'll actually have the time to commit to something like that,” he concluded.

Larson currently occupies the ninth spot in the driver’s standings, with 206 points in his tally. His performance in the current season has seen ups and downs, but he is still in the mix to make it to The Chase.
