The France family that runs NASCAR is currently eyeing international waters, as the governing officials want to return to Mexico as a probable venue in the future. Mexico, the U.S.'s neighbor, has a rich racing culture and heritage and is regarded as an important market for NASCAR.

In the past, Mexico has hosted NASCAR races, and the most recent examples were the 2025 Cup and the Xfinity Series races, the Viva Mexico 250, and the Chilango 150 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the renowned Formula 1 track in Mexico City.

"What I can tell you is it's an important market for us, it's a strategic market that we would love to be in in the future," Ben Kennedy, the Chief Operating Officer of NASCAR, said in a video shared by Steven Taranto on X.

NASCAR's history with Mexico goes back to the Xfinity Series' races from 2005 to 2008. The Cup Series made its long-awaited debut in 2025. Meanwhile, the NASCAR Mexico Series has competed in the country continuously since 2004.

The Cup race in 2025 was the first point-paying race in NASCAR, which took place outside of the United States since 1958. Moreover, one of NASCAR's most recognisable faces, Daniel Suarez, comes from Mexico, who helped popularize the sport in the country.

"We have a lot of hungry fans down there, we have drivers like Daniel Suarez that came from our NASCAR Mexico Series that are running in our NASCAR Cup Series right now, and would love nothing more to return in the future," he further added.

This year, NASCAR raced at San Diego that replaced Mexico as the latter is currently hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside the United States and Canada.

If NASCAR moves there next time, Kennedy mentioned that it's calendary entry can be modified depending on weather and the event volume at this time of the year.

When Daniel Suárez conquered his home track in Mexico

When NASCAR hosted the Xfinity Series race on June 14 at Mexico's iconic Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez track, Daniel Suarez, the home hero, enjoyed a fairytale victory in his first NASCAR race there, starting from the back.

Suarez led a race-best 19 of the race’s 65 laps, beating Taylor Gray by .598 seconds. And he did that in a backup car that was rebuilt for him after he crashed in qualifying.

"It's amazing that this race is actually happening here," Suarez said after the race, as reported by Reuters. "This win is not only for me; it's for everyone who has worked on this in Mexico and the United States, and for everyone who believes in it and in me."

"It's incredible to get this win in front of my home crowd and my people. Did you guys have fun? Viva Mexico," Suarez shouted to the local fans.

Having beaten Connor Zilisch and Ty Gibbs in the race, Suarez, who was racing with Trackhouse at the time, claimed the Xfinity Series victory. He fended off Taylor Gray in a late restart to take home the win, his last in the O'Reilly Series so far.
