Katherine Legge is now preparing to present herself and race in one of the most difficult feats in American racing -- The Double. But before she takes on that challenge, she received advice from a friendly face who knows it better than anyone else - Kyle Larson.

Legge, who will now attempt both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 on May 24, was very keen and open to express how major Larson’s support was for her. “One thing Kyle said was, ‘Enjoy it, don’t get stressed about it.’”

Larson, too, dropped in with his support for her. “I’m really excited for her,” he said, later adding that “she’s an amazing ambassador for the sport.”

The issue in such attempts generally is with the limited time for preparation that a driver has. On that, Legge added, “I train year-round, and I’ve done a lot of endurance racing.”

Yet the problem remains more mental than about training. “Mentally, I think it will be a struggle just switching gears from one discipline to the next,” she admitted. She added that “it’s going to be more the auxiliary type things you worry about and not the actual driving.”

The challenge in itself is monumental as drivers must race around 1100 miles across two distinct racing styles on the same day. Legge too felt this pressure as she said, “A lot of excitement, a lot of thoughts bouncing around, a lot of logistics and planning to get done.”

A few days back, Larson had also spoken of the challenges when he had spoken about Legge's participation. "The challenges, as everybody was aware of mine, is just the weather. The driving and whatnot is a challenge in its own, but ultimately, it’s the weather that can put a damper on things if you get any bit of a delay.”

Still, the Brit couldn’t do much to hide how she felt about the opportunity. “It will be an opportunity of a lifetime,” she said. “I’m excited.”

Legge has spent not just now but around a year preparing for this day, and let’s find out exactly how well she’s doing.

Legge’s entire 2026 season has been structured around this historic attempt

Earlier this month, Katherine Legge raced at The Glen, which marked her first Cup start of the year in the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet, finishing 35th. Before that, she had solely focused on developing her skills at the Indy 500 after encountering an engine failure in the 2024 edition and a pit road crash in the ’23 edition.

This year, she completed her veteran refresher program with HMD Motorsports and AJ Foyt Racing, getting ready for her fifth Indianapolis start.

But her efforts at Indy shouldn’t just be witnessed by her finishes but by another important fact: she still holds the record for the fastest qualifying effort by a woman, set back in 2023 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

Legge has barely raced this year to prep for the Double but boasts an impressive resume consisting of an IMSA WeatherTech win, competition at Le Mans, and becoming the first woman ever to lead the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

She is clearly more than ready for the physical challenge at the Double. What remains to be seen is how she will deal with the mental pressure. She has our support, and we'll tune in on the 24th to see this legend race not once but twice.
