Kevin Harvick Reveals How Brexton Busch Helped End His “Intense” Rivalry With Kyle Busch

NASCAR legends Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch traded paint for two decades. But it took their sons to finally broker the peace.

“It was definitely an up-and-down relationship,” Harvick admitted. “The thing that I enjoyed the most was beating Kyle. And the thing that I know is that he enjoyed the most was beating me. And it was a cat-and-mouse game for a long time because there were truck teams and businesses and things involved.”

Harvick then went on to add how personal the feud had become. “It was a war. Literally a war as we went through the years… there wasn’t anything more intense than that rivalry. That wasn’t fake. There was nothing fake about it.”

Their feud peaked after the 2011 Darlington race, where Harvick tried to confront Busch on pit road after they had an aggressive contact.

But everything slowly changed once both drivers became fathers. “I had Keelan and was able to become a parent and see things a little bit differently,” Harvick explained.

It was at this exact moment that the accusations and retaliations reduced to discussions on something far more pious and fruitful.

“In the end, all we talked about was Keelan and Brexton and what we were going to do and how they were going to go forward,” Harvick revealed.

Becoming fathers changed both Harvick and Busch personally. It helped them move on from their rivalry phases and their conversations became more mature around their sons, having a common goal for them.

Since then, Brexton has evolved to become one of the biggest youth racing names in America, and clearly, Kyle’s teaching seems to be wearing off on him. Let’s take a look at how the young champ is doing.

Brexton Busch is already building an elite racing résumé

Brexton Busch, despite being just 11, has managed to steer an impressive set of victories. The son of Kyle Busch reportedly recorded 48 victories, 107 top-five finishes, and 126 top-10s during the 2024 season alone across outlaw karts, micros, Bandoleros, and Legends competition.

The biggest breakthrough for the young prodigy, however, came in 2025 when he achieved victory at the Tulsa Shootout Junior Sprint Championship, that too in a 107-driver field, granting him his first Golden Driller trophy.

The champ has also secured the 2025 INEX Bandolero Bandits Championship with a massive 23 wins and 28 podium finishes in just a mere 33 starts.

These stats show one clear thing: the child seems to be directly learning from the father. And if the history of Kyle Busch can be a testimony to something, then in this case, it is one to his son’s bright future.
