Kyle Busch, perhaps, is going through the most difficult season of his Cup Series career. And since the last Bristol race, the frustration within the Richard Childress Racing team is starting to show.

Following a rough outing at Bristol, the internal frustration within the No. 8 team boiled over on the radio, prompting Busch to address the team's ongoing struggles head-on before the media.

Crew chief Jim Pohlman’s patience snapped as adjustments failed to fix Busch's lack of rear grip. Pohlman vented during the ongoing ruckus on the track after Busch-Herbst, “Just same s*** every week.” The outburst made it clear that struggling with uncooperative equipment has become the team's new, exhausting baseline.

Busch defended his crew chief’s heated reaction in a recent press conference. “I mean, he’s frustrated, you know. He’s probably not been in this boat very often, you know, not having changes be able to affect the race car and things like that.”

“I’ve been here for four or five years and have figured out that there aren’t a lot of things that will really take you from a 30th-place car to a winning car. So it’s just different. So, you know, he having the frustrations of that is—is fine, I get it, you know, and, you know, we just continue to try to figure out what helps me and—and makes me comfortable on Sunday.” Busch said,

A Complicated Personal and Business Rift with Riley Herbst

The recent run-ins with Riley Herbst, tension from Bristol, might have an impact on Busch's personal and professional life as well. Busch revealed that he hasn't spoken a word to Herbst since their on-track incident, which is particularly awkward given their long history.

Herbst actually got his start in the national series by driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports back in 2018, but the relationship has clearly soured since then.

Beyond their past as owner and driver, the situation is further complicated by off-track business ties in their home state of Nevada. Busch explained the strange dynamic of feuding with someone connected to his own financial interests:

“Yeah, it’s really weird with Riley because, you know, they have a nice family business out there in Nevada, and I’m a part of that family business being an investor in a couple of those stores.”

For Busch, the conflict goes beyond typical racing aggression and enters the territory of future business headaches. “And so, uh, it’s really awkward when you can’t get along with the kid who’s probably one day going to take over that. And so it’s just, um, you know, bonehead moves.”

He made it clear that while the business connection exists, he isn't going to let "bonehead moves" on the track slide without consequences.
