Kyle Busch Admits Intentional Retaliation After Riley Herbst Clash at Bristol

When it comes to accosting his fellow drivers, Kyle Busch is not known to hold back. During the Bristol race on April 12, Busch pulled a move on Riley Herbst that was deemed intentional by many, but his recent admission clears all doubt.

During the Food City 500 race, the Richard Childress Racing driver was spun around by Riley Herbst on lap 313. Later in the race, Busch seemingly took his revenge by spinning the 23XI Racing driver around coming out of Turn 4 on lap 498.

During a recent appearance on the "Hang Out with Sean Hannity" podcast, the RCR driver was questioned about drivers causing intentional wrecks. He replied, saying, "Intentionally wrecking somebody is like… that needs to be like a no-no."

When asked if he had ever intentionally wrecked somebody, Kyle Busch seemingly referenced the Herbst incident, saying:

"Oh no, I can’t say that I've never done that. I have done that. Yeah, I have done that. Just this past weekend, for instance, this guy behind me hit me and spun me out in the corner. And so then, I don’t know, 200 laps later, I got back to him, and I’m like, 'See you, buddy!' An eye for an eye, you know. He knew it was coming. He tried to get out of the way twice."

In his early career, Kyle Busch has been involved in incidents that seemed aggressive or intentional. However, those days have to be behind him, considering his struggle to bring in results over the past few years.

In 2026 itself, the RCR driver has yet to finish in the top 10 so far. This performance has raised questions about his future at Richard Childress Racing.

Kyle Busch's doubtful future at RCR

The #8 Richard Childress Racing driver has been in a long slump, and for the third season in a row, might not make it to the playoffs. Kyle Busch is currently 102 races without a win, and last made his visit to Victory Lane in June 2023 at Gateway.

The two-time NASCAR Cup champion will be a free agent by the end of the 2026 season. With incidents like Bristol taking place, it somewhat tarnishes his image in the garage.

NASCAR fans were eager to see signs of improvement from Kyle Busch this season, but have been met with disappointment so far. Busch has finished the last five races outside the top 20.

After nine races this season, he finds himself 27th in the standings with a 324-point deficit to the leader, Tyler Reddick.
