Kyle Busch is on a 103-race and ongoing winless streak in the NASCAR Cup Series. While the fans and paddock are busy speculating about his career after 2026, the two-time NASCAR champion feels invigorated to set a great example for his son, Brexton. 

Busch last visited the victory lane in June 2023 at Gateway, and currently sits 27th in the standings after ten races. Despite the looming concern about a third straight playoff miss, the Richard Childress Racing driver wants to use this phase as a teaching moment for his son. 

While talking to FOX Sports reporter Bob Pockrass at Talladega, Kyle Busch said:

"I am raising a little racer myself, right? Brexton sees every single weekend, he’s around, and he sees me go home, and you know, he sees me watching SMT film or looking at the data and being in the team meetings, where I am gone throughout the time, half the time through the week, because I am at sim, I'm in team meetings, doing all I can on my side to be able to help further develop the team."

He further added, "Just, it’s for me to show him that there’s a lot of work that goes into this. That it just doesn't come easy, That you have to pour it in in order to get the results out of it. So, yeah, we want to win; we want to be successful. Brexton doesn't remember the days of me being successful, being out there winning all the time, winning all the races, getting thrown up in the air."

A proven champion like Kyle Busch doesn't need to re-prove his worth to the NASCAR world. But is he committed to returning to his prime? That could be a fair question. To that sentiment, he says, "So, trust me, this is my life, our life, everything we have known, and now another generation is coming in."

His son, Brexton Busch, is already proving himself on the track. He won the 2025 Tulsa Shootout Jr. Sprint Championship and the INEX Bandolero Bandits National Championship with 23 victories and 28 podiums in 2025.

Besides aiding his son's success, Kyle Busch also has a newfound hope in his teammates' improved performance.

Kyle Busch takes inspiration from Austin Dillon

Kyle Busch’s teammate, Austin Dillon, has been with the team since 2014. However, he has not been able to finish a season higher than 11th in the standings. 

Over the past two seasons, Dillon has been able to make it to the playoffs while Busch struggled to do so. In the 2026 season, Dillon has produced better results compared to Busch, with three consecutive Top 20s in the last three races.

Speaking about his teammates' progress, in the same interview, Kyle Busch said, "I got to give credit where credit is due. I feel like Austin, Jazzy, and Oswell are just clicking right now. They are able to get the best out of their race cars, and they are smart in what they are doing in being able to have all the right stuff, so I feel like we are just kind of a little behind the 8 ball on the 8 car a little bit." 

Kyle Busch also highlighted the progress his new crew chief, Jim Pohlman, is making. On Sunday at Talladega, the No. 7 driver earned his first Top 10 of the season. It will be interesting to see how his RCR squad performs at the upcoming race at Texas Speedway.
