The NASCAR community is mourning the loss of Kyle Busch, who has passed away, aged 41. A joint statement was issued by NASCAR, the Busch family, and team Richard Childress Racing, confirming the same. 

The two-time Cup Series champion was hospitalized just hours earlier before this on Thursday. Other than a "severe illness," no specific reason was given in the statements issued by Busch’s family and RCR. He had already withdrawn from the upcoming Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, with Austin Hill supposed to be filling in for him. 

A post on X from the official NASCAR account said, "We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport's greatest and fiercest drivers. He was 41 years old. We extend our deepest condolences to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing, and the entire motorsports community."

Kyle Busch leaves us with an awe-inspiring legacy in NASCAR, which includes two Cup championships, multiple firsts for a NASCAR driver, and unforgettable battles on track.

Tributes have come in pouring from all ends, including former JGR teammate Denny Hamlin, who posted on X, "Absolutely cannot comprehend this news. We just need to think of his family during this time. We love you, KB."

NASCAR veteran Mark Martin also took to X and said, "I’m in shock and speechless," while RFK’s Brad Keselowski, who once feuded with the driver on-air, also paid tribute to him, saying, "Absolute shock. Very hard to process. Hug your loved ones."

Kyle Busch: "You Never Know When The Last One Is"

Kyle Busch’s most recent win came in the Truck Series at the Eco Save 200 at Dover Motor Speedway, which was also the 69th Truck win of his career. After the race, he made a statement that now hits hard: "You never know when the last one is."

Busch was on a winless streak in the Cup Series that had surpassed 100 races. However, after a change in crew chiefs, the No. 8 driver registered the best finish of his season, securing eighth place at Watkins Glen. During that same race, he was heard asking for medical assistance on team radio comms. 

Even as recently as May 17, the No. 8 RCR driver was asked about the reason he sought medical assistance after the Watkins Glen race, to which he had replied it was due to a persistent cough, and that he still did not feel fully fine.

Kyle Busch is survived by his wife, Samantha, and two children, son Brexton, aged 11, and daughter Lennix, aged 4.
