Kyle Busch has let go of two icons from his private garage ahead of the Kansas race, with his custom 1957 Thunderbird and 1956 Bel Air now sold. Both cars played a role in major family milestones.

In a recent social media post, Busch said his collection had grown enough that he needed to make space, which is why he sold the two classics.

They had undergone thorough restorations, but still held personal value for Busch and his wife, Samantha. The couple used these vehicles to announce the births of their children.

Speaking of the Thunderbird specifically, it was bought as a surprise gift for Samantha. It is a 1957 convertible model with a Dusk Rose paint finish, whitewall tires, and Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels.

Under the hood, there is a 5.1-liter V8 producing 240 hp, paired with an automatic transmission. The car has been owned by the couple for 12 years and has covered under 1,100 miles since its restoration. In August 2013, it won the ‘Gold’ award at the Classic Thunderbird Club International convention in San Jose, California.

Meanwhile, the Bel Air is a 1956 model with a dual-tone Twilight Turquoise and White paint scheme. It has an LS1 V8 engine paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and it also features a limited-slip differential. Additionally, it has an air suspension setup that allows the ride height to be adjusted depending on usage.

Auction Details and Notable Cars in Busch’s Collection

The cars went under the hammer at Barrett-Jackson West Palm Beach and were sold during the event.

A portion of the Thunderbird sale proceeds went to The Bundle of Joy Fund, a charity close to the Busch family.

Other than these two, Busch has also kept a few race-winning cars from his career in the garage, like the 2015 title-winning Toyota, the 2019 Interstate Batteries Camry from his 200th win, and the three cars from his Bristol sweep weekend.

For Busch, the collection isn’t just about the cars. They’re tied to different moments in his life, which is why selling these two carries weight.
