From Michael Schumacher to Dale Earnhardt, all have helped their sons enter racing. It is no easy task, ask Kyle Larson, who is finding it hard to follow the footsteps of the aforementioned names when it comes to coaching his kids.

"I'm a really bad coach," Larson recently said in the Speed with Harvick and Buxton podcast. "So it's hard for me to try and tell Owen to do something. I'm like, just run harder, you know? Do that, and he's like what does that even mean? So Katelyn is much better at taking what I say and then likes putting it in kids words to describe it. I'm not a good coach. But I'm a pretty relaxed dad. Like, I'm not super intense. I'm not like Kyle would be."

Following this, Larson shared intricate details of his experience of coaching his kids, Owen, and Audrey.

"Owen's pretty soft, I feel like. So, you've got to be careful with how aggressively you try to teach him. Audrey can retain what you're saying a lot better, and so I enjoy that part because you can talk to her, and I can see that she's absorbing it, and then can go apply it. But then also I'm not there enough to where I feel like I can just jump in and coach," Larson further added.

Kyle Larson got married to Katelyn Sweet back in 2018. Prior to their marriage, they welcomed their first child, Owen, in 2014. Their daughter, Audrey, was born in 2018, and finally, their third child, and second son, Cooper, was born in 2022.

Over the years, Larson has made several appearances with his children and wife at racetracks. They have had a lot of opportunities to celebrate his wins, including in 2025 when Larson won the Cup Series. However, this year it seems like the going has been tough for the HMS driver.

Kyle Larson started the season as a defending champion, but his performance after the first seven races has not reflected it. While his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Chase Elliott, won a race, his last victory came in May 2025, almost 11 months ago.

"Ultimately, we want to get back to Victory Lane," Larson said. "We're working as hard as we ever have worked, I feel like, as a group, and we want to win; it's just gotten really tough for whatever reason. Got some good tracks coming up for us, and hopefully we can do a good job and execute, but this series is tough. I know a lot of times we've made winning maybe look easy, but it's not, and I've never felt that it was easy. I just gotta keep working at it.”

Kyle Larson has one top five this season, as the HMS driver's best result came at Phoenix, where he finished in third place. Currently, the #5 driver is in ninth place with 206 points after seven races. With that said, it will be interesting to see if the 2025 Cup Series manages to win at Bristol this weekend.
