Kyle Larson Revisits Double Journey Ahead of Prime Video Release

‘Kyle Larson v/s The Double’ is all set to hit the TV screens on May 21st. Ahead of its release, the two-time Cup champ sat down to reflect on his Double Journey.

The Double includes competing in the Coca-Cola 600 and the Indianapolis 500 on the same day. The Hendrick Motorsports driver participated in the same for two years straight in 2024 and 2025.

Ahead of the private screening of the documentary, Larson spoke to NASCAR. com, where he looked back on his attempt at the double.

“It didn’t quite go perfectly with the weather. Both years you have weather delays, obviously the first being catastrophic — and then the second year, even the delay that we had before the 500 — it was ultimately going to keep us from finishing the 500 even without me crashing,” the No 5 driver said.

He further said, “I wish I didn’t crash, but odds are I still was probably not gonna be able to finish the race, which was a bummer. So yeah, that was the most upsetting part, but still, overall, the experience was awesome.”

The 33-year-old participated in the Indianapolis 500 with Arrow McLaren during both his attempts. The Double was a joint effort between HMS and Arrow McLaren.

In 2024, Larson's Double attempt failed thanks to rain. He finished the Indy 500 in 18th, but the race started hours later due to rain. So by the time he reached NC for the Coca Cola 600, Justin Allgaier had already started the race for him, and the rain hit there too, ending the race.

In 2025, his Double attempt ended in crashes at both venues. At Indy 500, Larson crashed on Lap 91 and finished 24th and he crashed at Lap 245 and finished 37th at Charlotte.

During his 2024 attempt, despite failing to put in a decent result, the NASCAR Cup Series champion walked away with the Rookie of the Year honor at ‘The Greatest Spectacle of Racing.’

However, this year, Larson will be skipping the Double Duty.

Participating in the Double is not for the faint-hearted as one needs to put up the 1100 laps combined on the same day. Moreover, the transportation from Charlotte to Indianapolis also takes a physical toll.

During his recent appearance on the Sirius XM NASCAR radio, Kyle Larson opened up about his previous attempts.

“I think my days of attempting the double are over. But, you know, I wouldn’t—you never say never about at least trying the Indy 500 again. But I don’t know; we will see. It’s tough to say it; it won’t come until after my full-time NASCAR career is over, and I don’t know when that will be.

“......But, for me, it’s just like, I don’t know. I think that will be a lot to take on. I am thankful for the last few years of being able to attempt it and get to start the race and all of that. But yeah, to do it all over again would be tough to tackle.”

Despite him not achieving the glory he was after, he has inspired drivers like Kathrine Legge to take up the challenge. Larson has publicly supported Legge in her attempt to become the first woman to attempt the Double.
