Liam Lawson's stint with Red Bull has provided the young New Zealander with plenty of valuable experience as he continues to find his footing on the Formula 1 grid. With the Azerbaijan Grand Prix now on the horizon, Lawson has taken a moment to reflect on his recent outings with the team and how far he's come along the way.

Lawson has stepped into the Red Bull car alongside Max Verstappen for the past three race weekends, filling in for an injured Isack Hadjar since the summer break. It's a second stint at the senior team for the New Zealander, who was demoted back to Racing Bulls early in 2025 before working his way back into contention. 

While talking to Formula One, the Kiwi driver reflected on his past three weekends with the Milton Keynes-based team after Monza. 

"I would have loved to have scored in Monza as well, but I think overall it's been a strong three weekends," Lawson told Formula One during an interview posted on September 13 on their website.

While reflecting on the weekends, Liam Lawson did not shy away from admitting the learning curve he faced.

"I've just tried to maximise each weekend. Honestly, a lot of things coming into it were just driver-specific that I knew were going to be challenging about this car, and I just really tried to prepare as much as I could, but it's been a very busy few weeks, to be honest."

With the race at Baku just over a week out, Isack Hadjar’s fitness is still being assessed. Liam Lawson also touched upon the uncertainty of which car he will be driving at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. 

"Probably this coming week will be busy as well to be honest, I'll probably be doing prep for both cars again. It's just been a busy time trying to put everything together, but it's been good." 

Whether he lines up in the Red Bull or finds himself back with Racing Bulls, Lawson's recent form suggests he's making the most of his opportunity. All eyes will be on Baku to see if that continues. 

Liam Lawson reflects on his outing at the Madring 

At the Spanish Grand Prix, Lawson bagged his best result, finishing sixth after stepping into the Red Bull car. He also scored points with a seventh-place finish at Zandvoort. 

While talking about his outing at the Madring in the aforementioned interview, Liam Lawson spoke about the challenges the track possesses. 

"Hard to overtake is really the biggest thing. We started on the hard [tyre] as well, and with the Virtual Safety Car, it didn't really help us," Lawson told Formula One during the interview. 

Furthermore, he touched upon how unforgiving the track is when it comes to track limits. 

"Was quite fun to do, but this track is very difficult to pull it off [an overtake]. I didn't nearly make the corner, and you do track limits, you have to give the place back. Tough race." 

Despite the tricky conditions, Liam Lawson's sixth-place finish stands as another step forward in a run of solid results for the Kiwi.
