When you think of some of the greatest racers in NASCAR history, Mark Martin’s name is certain to show up. In his heyday, he was known to punch above his weight, often driving lesser-performing cars beautifully.

Therefore, it must be flattering for a modern-day racer to be included among the favourites of someone of Mark’s stature.

Responding to a fan on X who asked Mark about his favourite team or driver among the currently active drivers, he listed the top three names he felt were similar to him in driving style.

Mark said, “I like a lot of these guys, but if you’re looking for someone with similarities to me, I would say Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, and Christopher Bell would be good choices."

Martin certainly had a ‘gentleman racer’ trait, in the sense that he had a clean, but calculated driving style. Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney often mirror that. In his younger days, the latter also seemed to mirror Martin’s appearance.

Christopher Bell mirrors Martin’s consistency and his ability to punch above his weight.

He has been appreciative of the aforementioned trio in the past. While he was rallying for NASCAR to bring back the Chase format, he found an ally in Chase Elliott, who wholeheartedly supported his stance.

Similarly, when Christopher Bell also questioned the playoff format, Martin was quick to call him his new favourite driver.

The reason Mark Martin, Elliott, and Bell supported the Chase being brought back is that it rewards consistency throughout the season, unlike the old playoff format, which could bring up a surprise winner. Here, the driver with the most points at the end of the season wins the title.

However, as per Mark Martin NASCAR Needs A Villain, Too

Previously, Martin has also praised Carson Hocevar, labelling him as the ‘villain’ NASCAR needs. Agreeing with Dale Jr., who said that Hocevar reminded him of his dad, Martin spoke,

“As far as Hocevar goes, Dale Jr.’s right. We need Hocevar to continue being a rocketship, and we need him to bounce off of people and stuff.”

“Why? We need some of that villain, some of those people love. Like they did with Earnhardt. They either love your style and love what you do, and condone every mistake that you make.

Or they hate you! And that's good, that's good if they hate you because that puts enthusiasm, gets people's blood pumping," he added.

Similar sentiments have also been echoed by The King, Richard Petty, who famously said that there is “no fox for all of the dogs to chase,” reiterating that modern-day drivers aren’t as dominant as the previous lots.

and that none of them has transcended NASCAR the way someone like Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, or Dale Earnhardt did.
