Mark Martin Reveals Untold Stories in His New Autobiography “Never Lift”
Mark Martin's autobiography, 'Never Lift', is finally out for publication, and with it, several untold stories of racing days from his time are set to surface. From his journey to become a race car driver to what racing was like during his time, Martin recently offered a sneak peek into many aspects of his life.
“The stories are fun to tell because the older we get, the more it sounds like the Wild West, racing in the ’70s,” Martin said, speaking about his autobiography. “You can’t believe the stories, because you couldn’t do it like that, or act like that now. This world was so different, and so there’s just a lot of interesting stuff. But it was not so much a reflection, it’s just being able to get it all out there.”
Martin co-wrote the book with journalist Mark "Bones" Bourcier, which weighs a hefty 544 pages. In the book, Martin revealed that he shared stories of his racing days with team owner Jack Roush, with whom he won 40 Cup races, 56 poles, and made 882 starts.
“That’s my life,” Martin added. “That was my hands on my car before I raced NASCAR, those cars were my cars, and my hands were all over them, and so I like to talk about that. That was my world, and that’s how I beat the best of the best. I didn’t outdrive them; I made my car faster. It worked for me at the local dirt track when I started, all the way to Dale Earnhardt.”

Besides sharing his experiences as a race car driver, his objective in writing the autobiography was to share these experiences with the younger generation of drivers. The book is ready for pre-order and will come out in August this year.
A sneak peek into Mark Martin's NASCAR career
Without a doubt, Mark "the Kid" Martin is one of the greatest NASCAR drivers. Having participated in all three national series races, the 67-year-old driver from Arkansas has multiple crowns under his belt.
Besides the 1143 NASCAR Cup, O'Reilly Auto Parts, and Truck Series races, he also participated in International Race of Champions and ARCA Menards Series races.
He claimed the IROC titles in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, and 2005, and was inducted into Motorsports' Hall of Fame in 2015 and NASCAR's Hall of Fame in 2017. With this, he was also selected as NASCAR's Greatest 50 and 75 Drivers in 1998 and 2023.
