NASCAR Driver Defuses Heated Moment After Post-Race Confrontation

A post-race confrontation at Bristol between rivals Sam Mayer and Jeb Burton had fans expecting fireworks. But unlike their history, this heated moment ended with a surprisingly calm explanation on pit road.
No. 41 Chevrolet, Hass driver Sam Mayer, and No. 27 Chevrolet driver Jeb Burton caught some heavy social media attention on the Bristol ground post-race. Jeb was seen approaching Sam on pit road to sort out some mid-race flare-up, and as per Sam, "Everything’s fine."
Tension arose during a late-race incident, which disturbed Mayer's finish, and unlike their 2025 Martinsville dispute, which led to Sam's suspension for the race, this one defused quickly.
In a post-race interview, Sam talked about the resolve both drivers had. "Just me being frustrated and him, of course, being the guy right there. Um, we’re good. Everything’s fine. Like, it was more of an 'explaining what happened' conversation, and me listening, me understanding, and me explaining my side of it—obviously being frustrated. So, yeah, we’re all good."
Sam also talked about how the last few restarts affected his race. "We were actually solid. We were, at worst, a top-ten car. And we were getting better, and then this last stage just kind of fell away from us a little bit. But we pitted, and it actually was pretty beneficial to have tyres, I felt, for our situation."
When asked if the struggles were due to the team switching to a new manufacturer this season, Mayer was quick to point out that speed isn't the issue. He explained,
"No, because we’ve been fast everywhere. And the speed is usually part of the growing pains, and we haven’t lacked speed really anywhere except for maybe one or two spots. So, it’s just literally keeping all four tyres in the same direction that they need to go and having people just not run into us at this point. So, yeah, one of these days it’ll turn around, and we’ll be alright."
A History of Friction Between Sam Mayer and Jeb Burton
This short flare-up reminded everyone of the huge clash these two drivers had last season. The 2025 Martinsville ended in a suspension for Sam Mayer as he intentionally crashed into Jeb Burton's car.
Aside from suspension, the incident escalated to a major level as both drivers called each other out ruthlessly. At the time, Mayer said,
"It’s a principle thing. He’s the worst person to race around in the entire garage. He has a reputation of being over his head every single week, and this was a prime example of it."
While the Bristol matter dissolved quickly, fans are starting to point out recurring drama surrounding Burton. One fan noted,
"Not the first time lol. Jeb definitely has anger issues. Gets mad and never does anything."
Another fan commented, "Another season, and another pointless Jeb Burton dispute on pit road." Even without brutal accusations this time, it's clear the history between them remains a major talking point for the garage.
