NASCAR legend Ryan Newman may have stepped back from full-time racing, but he is not ready to fully close the chapter on racing. The 48-year-old recently made a comeback in the Truck Series, and he spoke about eyeing more races. 

The "Rocket Man" returned to the Truck Series with Kaulig Racing’s No. 25 RAM 1500 entry for the Faith Fest 250 at North Wilkesboro. He started the race at the 0.625-mile speedway in 25th place and finished the race in 24th. 

Post-race, while talking to the media, Newman was questioned by reporter Steven Taranato if he had any plans to come back for more NASCAR Truck Series races. 

"The last part of that is that we’ve talked about doing another race," he said in a video shared by Taranto on X. "I told him (Kaulig CEO Chris Rice) we’ll see where our fun meters are afterwards; they may not want me, or they may want me even more, who knows, but we have talked about doing more races"

Newman is not a stranger to NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck Series. He has made seven starts before this weekend and also boasts the achievement of winning on his Truck debut at Atlanta in 2008. In five successive starts, he finished consistently in the Top 5.

Newman's last start in the series before North Wilkesboro this year was in 2018 at Eldora Speedway. During that race, he finished 30th.

Although Newman stopped short of confirming his return to the NASCAR Truck Series, the veteran driver has left the door open for future appearances.

Ryan Newman is not the only driver this year to make his return to NASCAR with Kaulig Racing's free agent program. 

Jamie McMurray's comeback at San Diego with Kaulig Racing

Back in April 2026, Kaulig Racing announced that the FOX analyst Jamie McMurray would be back in the truck series with its "Free Agent" program.

Speaking about the opportunity, the FOX Analyst had expressed his excitement ahead of his return to the series. 

"Racing on a naval base in San Diego for the very first time is going to be an incredible experience," said McMurray (via Kaulig Racing). "Street courses reward precision and adaptability, and I’m looking forward to teaming with Kaulig and Ram to make some history in that No. 25 truck."

However, his return to the series did not go as planned. He qualified for the race at the Naval Base in 34th place. During the race, he managed to put in only 22 laps before crashing out.

As of now, it remains unclear if Jamie McMurray will make another appearance in NASCAR anytime soon. However, Kaulig Racing is set to bring another racer out of retirement, with former Cup Series driver Elliott Sadler set to race the No. 51 truck at Richmond.

Kaulig will also be in focus next weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with IndyCar star Conor Daly set to pilot the same truck.
