NASCAR Official Reveals the Negative Impact of Tyler Reddick’s Early Dominance

Tyler Reddick has been the most dominant driver this season, and while that is a good thing for 23XI, according to Steve O'Donnell, it may not be the best thing for NASCAR and its fans.

Reddick has already won 5 races with more than half the calendar, and in the meantime, only one other driver (Chase Elliott) has won multiple races in 2026. 12 races in the season have seen 7 different winners.

But Reddick’s dominance has both positives and negatives. When NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell was asked if Tyler Reddick’s incredible start to the season was good for NASCAR, his answer was a mixed one.

“Yes and no,” he said, according to Steven Taranto. O’Donnell also said “many story lines out there” and “I think we missed a little bit” while referring to Reddick’s season.

NASCAR’s CEO was talking about the missed bit in reference to earlier seasons, where no particular driver got off to such a flyer like Reddick, who has picked up wins at a rate not seen since Dale Earnhardt’s 1987 season. Reddick won 5 of the first 9 races.

The negative O’Donnell believes is that because of Reddick and 23XI’s dominance, there are many story lines not getting as much traction as that of Reddick's wins.

The CEO did, however, point out that the positives of Reddick winning at such a rate are good for the sport as he is putting on a similar showing to what his team owner, Michael Jordan, once did when he was at the peak of his powers in the NBA.

That storyline of a driver proving to be a dominant force and connecting it to Jordan’s legacy has the potential of drawing new fans to the sport. As well as showing that 23XI is now that raw power and talent make for a potent combination in the Next Gen car.

Reddick’s record-breaking season so far

NASCAR hasn’t seen this kind of dominance at the start of the season in a while. Reddick won his first Daytona 500 and went on to set a new record by following it up with wins in Atlanta and COTA, becoming the first driver to win the first three races of a season.

He followed it up with wins at Darlington and Kansas, but it’s not just his race wins. Even in races Reddick hasn’t won, he has still been very strong.

He finished 8th in Phoenix, 4th in Bristol and Texas, and even on the road course, he finished 5th at Watkins Glen, coming 2nd in the second stage of the race.

From 12 races, he has finished 8th or above an incredible 9 times, showing the kind of consistency one needs, going into the Chase. The runaway leader is currently 567 points, which includes the largest number of stage points as well (96).

Even his bad races haven’t truly been bad. His worst results this year are 15th and 14th-place finishes in Martinsville and Talladega, while his only other non-top 10 finish was a 13th in Vegas.
