NASCAR Team Owner Set to Make His Racing Return with Rival Team's Car
Owning a NASCAR team has never stopped the owners from stepping into the car. And Justin Marks is all set to do the same, but with a twist. The Trackhouse Racing team owner will not be stepping behind the wheel of his own machinery.
Marks will make his return to NASCAR in the Craftsman Truck Series at the Naval Base Coronado on June 19. However, he will be making his comeback in the Spire Motorsports No 77 truck sponsored by Jockey.
NASCAR insider and The Athletic analyst Jordan Bianchi posted about the same via his X account.
"Justin Marks to drive Spire Motorsports' No. 77 entry in the Truck Series race at San Diego," he reported on June 11. "It will be Marks' first start since July 2022 at Mid-Ohio."
Since 2007, Mark has had 39 Truck Series starts. He earned two pole positions, one of which came at Texas Motor Speedway in 2008, while the other came at Dover Motor Speedway in 2011. Over his career of 39 race starts, he bagged four top 10s. His last truck race was at Mid-Ohio in 2022.
Apart from this, he has also made a handful of starts in the Cup and O’Reilly series. His last race in the O’Reilly series was in 2023. In the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, he registered one win, which came at Mid-Ohio in 2016.
He looks forward to being in the driver's seat again.
"It's a unique opportunity to drive in the inaugural Truck Series race at San Diego Naval Base," said Marks. "I'll enjoy getting behind the wheel every once in a while, and I'm thankful to do it with Spire's help and with a longtime partner like Jockey."
Marks is the owner of the Trackhouse Racing team, which he started back in 2021. His team currently fields three entries in the Cup Series: the No. 1 of Ross Chastain, the No. 88 of Connor Zilisch, and the No. 97 of Shane van Gisbergen.
Meanwhile, Marks is not the only NASCAR veteran to make a comeback at the Naval Base Coronado truck race.
Jamie McMurray Is All Set to Race in San Diego
The NASCAR veteran driver Jamie McMurray is all set to take over Kaulig Racing’s No 25 Ram Truck. Over his two-decade-long career, McMurray won seven Cup Series races.
The 2010 Daytona 500 champion has 25 career starts in the Craftsman Truck Series.
Post the announcement, while talking to the media, McMurray opened up about how he is excited to take on the unique challenges that the track brings.
“Racing on a naval base in San Diego for the very first time is going to be an incredible experience. Street courses reward precision and adaptability, and I’m looking forward to teaming with Kaulig and Ram to make some history in that No. 25 truck.”
McMurray and Justin Marks will be racing alongside other NASCAR veteran Brendan Gaughan, who will be racing for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing.
