Just weeks after Kyle Busch’s sudden passing, his son Brexton is back to racing. And he gets back into his racing boots, his mother, Samantha Busch, penned a heartfelt message for her son. 

Brexton got back behind the wheel of his Legends car on Monday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. He finished in 6th in the Summer Shootout. As the Junior Busch put in laps at the speedway, Samantha reflected on the emotional moment as she penned down a heartfelt note.

"Watching Brexton back at the track is both heartbreaking and beautiful all at once because there are moments when I catch a glimpse of Kyle in him, the same determination, the same passion, the same spark, and for a second it feels like a piece of him is still right here with us," Samantha wrote in an Instagram post. 

She further wrote about the promise she made to Kyle in his final moments about helping their children with their dream. 

"For Brexton, that dream is racing. It wasn’t a dream Kyle chose for him. It was something they shared. They spent countless hours talking about race cars, working together, dreaming together, and building a bond around something they both genuinely loved. Racing is what lights Brexton up and as long as it’s the dream in his heart, I’ll be right there beside him, cheering him on every step of the way."

'The Rowdy,' as he came to be known among fans, passed away on May 21st, just hours after being hospitalized for ‘severe illness’. In a statement later released by the family, it was revealed to be 'pneumonia that progressed into sepsis.'

As Samantha continues to focus on Brexton’s racing career, the possibility of Busch carrying forward his father’s legacy could be a thing in the future.

Richard Childress Reserves the No 8 for Brexton Busch

In NASCAR, numbers are not just numbers; they also become a part of the driver's identity. And something similar is seen with Kyle Busch with the No 8.

The No 8 has been closely associated with Busch for years. After his sudden death, Richard Childress announced that the number was being reserved for Brexton if he decides to race in the Cup series, be it for RCR or the rival camp. 

"Kyle designed that style 8 car," Childress said. "And it's not to ever put any pressure on him to run the 8, but it's there for him. We'll save it for Brexton if he ever comes and says, 'Hey, I'm going to go drive for Rick Hendrick, I want to use that 8.'"

Brexton is currently racing in the Legends Car and has been slowly climbing up the ranks of grassroots racing. Last year, he won the  Tulsa Shootout Jr. Sprint Championship.
