Tyler Reddick created history at Kansas last weekend. His five wins out of the first nine races this season have made him the first driver after The Intimidator to achieve such a feat since 1987.

In a recent interaction with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Danny ‘Chocolate’ Myers, Earnhardt’s long-time gas man at Richard Childress Racing, reflected on Reddick’s feat by drawing parallels with Dale Sr.’s 1987 season.

“Take it all in, it will not last forever, I promise you that. We don't know how long it's going to last, but I'll also tell you a few more things that we didn't do. We never stopped working as hard as we could.”

Myers also brought it down to a few key factors that drove the Intimidator to win 11 out of 29 races in the 1987 season, and how he sees the same factors in Tyler Reddick today. He attributed most of it to hard work and determination, but he also acknowledged the need for something else.

“I look at it now and think how blessed I was to be a part of that thing, but it was because of desire, dedication, determination, a little bit of that racer's luck, but Richard Childress always said this, ‘You make your own luck.’

"You need to be there in case something happens, and you can capitalize on it, just like we saw Tyler Reddick do last week. He capitalized on something we didn't know was gonna happen. He was there to do what he needed to.”

Reddick’s current run is not just a purple patch; it is proof of things finally going right for him after the last year that wasn’t easy on him.

The Struggle Before the Success

The 23XI Racing driver had a fairly decent 2024 season with three wins and 12 top-five finishes, securing fourth in the driver’s standings. However, his 2025 season was marred by multiple factors.

While he was still consistent enough to make the playoffs, he could not secure a win that season and was eliminated after the Round of 12, settling for ninth place in the standings.

The antitrust lawsuit between 23XI and NASCAR had created a sense of uneasiness within the team, but an even bigger factor behind his struggles was his newborn son Rookie's tumor in the chest. However, he was treated successfully.

With the race weekend at Talladega fast approaching, can Reddick and 23XI keep up their red-hot form?
