Tyler Reif shocked everyone when he pulled off a stellar performance at the Navy 250 at the San Diego Street Course on Friday. The No. 42 driver, whose mistake on the very last lap cost him dearly, impressed everyone with his run, following which he received a series of accolades from racing experts as well as fans.

"Obviously, if I could redo that chicane a hundred times over, I'd redo it 101 times," Reif told Frontstretch after the race. "I mean, I did it perfectly 49 times and I missed it once, right? The only lap it mattered too. So I don't know, not a lot of words for it, but I'm just extremely disappointed in myself and it's definitely not going to happen again."

Reif was leading the race nearing the end, but on the final chicane, he hit a corner and missed another due to the hit. On the next turn, he could see the eventual race-winner Layne Riggs pass him by as he made a quick stop-and-go as per rules. He was penalized nonetheless, which dropped his race-winning contention to P19.

"I think the pressure just got to me, right? I just had a talk with Carson Hocever after and he was like, 'Look, you're going to run your line and Layne's either going to wreck you or he's not.' And I was so worried about him getting into me that I threw my own race away," he further added.

Racing in the No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado Truck for Niece Motorsports (founded by Al Niece, a US Marine Corps veteran), Reif performed brilliantly given the team he was racing with.

Despite this, Reif, who races under part-time obligation, maximized his chances and tried to extract a formidable result. And his efforts did not go unnoticed, as the young driver received enormous praise.

Mark Martin, former NASCAR driver and veteran expert, shared his thoughts on Tyler Reif's performance. He wrote on X, "Man @TylerReif_ drove a hell of a race last night @NASCAR_Trucks. Most kids nowadays would have handled that finish differently and said I did what I had to do. He gained my respect for sure. I know his parents were proud."

Current Cup Series driver, Carson Hocevar, also praised Reif's performance on social media. "Nothing but a hat tip to tyler reif. deserves massive props for that drive regardless," he wrote.

Taking to his official X account, a fan wrote. "I thought he handled himself absolutely perfectly 👌🏼. Better than most men would've in that situation. He's gonna win and he's gonna win a lot!! Having talent is only part of what it takes. Maturity and smart decision making is just as important and he's got it."

Another fan wrote, "That was Edge of your seat action! I was pulling for him as it wasn't just happenstance. He was wheeling it. Great interview too! As Forest Gump once said… "S*** happens."

"Idk about a star yet, but something was born for sure. Owners should be lining up to sign him full time for 2027, hope he gets one," wrote another fan, talking about his future in NASCAR.

Riggs won the race, as he finished ahead of Daniel Hemric. Kaz Grala finished the race in third place, while Landen Lewis and Ty Majeski wrapped up the top five.
