RFK Could Lose Its NASCAR Star as Two Cup Teams Chase Him for 2027, Claims Insider

With the NASCAR season close to its halfway mark, the focus is shifting a little beyond the playoffs. The silly season chatter has begun to take place, and this time, RFK Racing finds itself in the middle of all the talk.

While the team grapples with finding a solution to losing their third charter, they could also lose one of their drivers. At RFK, all three drivers, that is, co-owner Brad Keselowski, Chris Buescher, and Ryan Preece, will be out of contract at the end of the year. However, this particular topic surrounds Buescher.

According to Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, in a recent video on Dirty Mo Media's YouTube channel where he spoke about the silly season, he mentioned that two teams in the NASCAR garage are interested in Buescher.

“I know for a fact that there’s two organizations that are interested in Chris [Buescher], signing him to a long-term contract,” Bianchi said.

Around two weeks ago, veteran NASCAR spotter Freddie Kraft had claimed on the "Door, Bumper, Clear" podcast that one team was Ford and the other, Toyota.

Legacy Motor Club could emerge as a realistic option as it already has a third charter for 2027, the one Ryan Preece is driving in for RFK this year. Riley Herbst has emerged as one of the stronger candidates to get into the No. 84, but a seasoned driver like Chris Buescher could help the team with their long-term plans.

Bianchi also mentioned a spot potentially being open at Penske as Austin Cindric will be out of contract at the end of 2026. Buescher, who is often deemed an underrated driver in the NASCAR garage, could be a decent replacement for Cindric.

While nothing has been confirmed by both RFK and Buescher, the rumors have been taking flight, as this is not the first time this season that the RFK driver has been in the spotlight.

Why Are Multiple Teams Interested in Chris Buescher

These rumors surrounding Buescher’s future began back in May. During the 'Door, Bumper, Clear' podcast fan event, Jordan Bianchi sat down with veteran crew chief Freddie Kraft to discuss the silly season.

It was then that Bianchi first revealed that two teams are interested in the RFK Racing driver.

"He’s definitely had a lot of interest from teams," said Bianchi. "And Chris, for a long time, is regarded as one of the most underrated drivers in the Cup series garage, where if you put him in an upper echelon organization that gives a Hendrick, a Gibbs, a Penske, he’s gonna go win races for you and contend for the championship. He’s the kind of elite talent."

Out of the three RFK drivers, Chris Buescher has been the best performer this season. He currently stands in eighth place in the driver's championship with seven Top tens and two top fives.

However, as of now, there have been no clear indications of either party looking for options elsewhere, but that could change over the course of the season.
