Richard Childress Racing seems to have taken a hit to its championship aspirations. Their brightest young prospect and reigning O'Reilly Auto Parts Series champion, Jesse Love, has decided to sign with Wood Brothers Racing beginning in 2027, piloting their No. 21 Ford.

This young champion's run with RCR comes to an end after three seasons, placing this prodigy into the Team Penske pipeline. Notably, this exact route previously helped launch Ryan Blaney's Cup Series career.

As Wood Brothers Racing announced the news on X, Love celebrated the announcement on social media, writing, “To realize a dream. Everything I’ve ever done, I’ve done to realize this dream. I’ve always believed that the relentless pursuit of a goal can be accomplished through obsession.”

He added that “with the right people around you, the right mindset, and the determination to wake up every day and work toward something bigger than yourself, no mountain is too tall to climb.”

Love's transfer finally puts one of the most anticipated silly season topics to rest. There were many rumors linking him to multiple teams and suggesting that Love himself was interested in entering the Cup Series.

The California native also wrote about the personal significance of reaching the highest level in NASCAR.

"My dad and I carry the same name, and we’ve carried the same dream for as long as I can remember. Today, that dream becomes reality,” Love wrote. He continued, “Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey. And thank you to the Wood Brothers, Team Penske, and Ford for believing in me beginning in 2027.”

RCR responded with a supportive statement, saying, “Richard Childress Racing is appreciative of Jesse Love’s contributions during his three seasons with our organization and wishes him nothing but success in the future.” The team added, “Jesse is a talented racer, and we are proud to have played a role in his development into a NASCAR champion.”

Jesse Love's strong championship defense

Jesse Love's season has been a mixed bag for scouts. The 21-year-old hasn't eked out a win yet but has shown immense speed and, frankly, admirable results. He sits second in the standings through 17 races in 2026. He has also amassed six top-five finishes, 10 top-10s, and one pole position this season.

The young driver also has an average start of 8.9 and an average finish of 11, showcasing the exact consistency that Wood Brothers seem to be betting on.

What is also an interesting fact is that earlier this season, he opened the year with top-10 finishes in each of the first three races and briefly led the championship standings.

The part-time experience that Love has gained with RCR's No. 33 Chevrolet, whether it is at COTA or Talladega, combined with his 2025 title in the No. 2 car, made him an admirable catch for any team. And now, with this new future ahead, he is promising to have a long and starry career at the pinnacle of American motorsports.
