NASCAR time and again has reminded us how volatile the driver-sponsor relation can be. The recent change at DGM Racing proves it.

DGM Racing recently announced a driver swap for their #92 car in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Josh Williams, who was previously slated to drive for the team this weekend at Watkins Glen International, will be replaced by Alex Guenette. The announcement comes after "a newly onboarded partner failing to meet its contractual obligations."

In the aforementioned press release, Williams stated, "This is an unfortunate circumstance for everyone involved. No team works harder than the men and women at DGM, and this is just another setback for a dedicated team that consistently shows up doing so much with so little.”

He further said, "We were very excited to bring a new partner into the sport, but they weren’t able to fulfill the terms and commitments they agreed to. As a team owner myself, I completely understand the decision that had to be made as a result. Looking forward to the day when we’ll be back.” 

The only good thing coming out of this situation for Williams is that he will get more family time as he and his wife are expecting their second child.

Despite this setback, William’s contract remains intact, and he will be racing at various races throughout the 2026 season.

Alex Guenette, the Canadian who's taking his place, has had seven starts in NOAPS, with 15th place at the Chicago Street Course being his best performance. In his NASCAR Canada Series, he has one win, 18 top-5s, and 40 top-10 finishes.

DGM team owner shared his sentiment

In the press release put out by the team, DGM team owner Mario Gosselin shared his thoughts about the swap. 

“While this is an incredible opportunity for Alex, this is a terribly difficult situation for our team. Business aside, Josh is like a son to me, and I hate that we cannot keep him in the seat this weekend.

"We came into the season with strong commitments that we believed were going to elevate our program and position our team for success, but when those don’t come to fruition, tough decisions have to be made to protect the future of our program and ensure long-term stability," he said.

As of now, it is unclear if Josh Williams will return for the race after Watkins Glen.
