For the first time in 131 races in over five years, Ty Gibbs was able to claim a victory as he won the recently concluded NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol. An official Cup winner now, Gibbs can see his name on the list of race winners, something he has been chasing since his debut in the series. As he finally made it, he is reluctant to get carried away but stays grounded.

"I don't think one win is going to change my life or my career," Gibbs said on the recent SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. "I mean, if that win didn't happen, I still knew I was capable of going running good this next weekend in Kansas. If one win was going to change my life, I don't think that. That's not the right mindset to have in life, and I definitely don't have that."

Gibbs started his 131 Cup race from fifth place, but moved down to 13th place at the end of Stage 1. In Stage 2, Gibbs recovered formidably to finish in seventh place. In the end, the #54 driver held off Team Penske's Ryan Blaney by 0.055 seconds to take home his maiden victory.

"So I knew, you know, obviously we've been really strong this year and we're capable of it, and it was just a matter of time in the last couple of years. But, you know, to have a great team and have a great call and put it all together, I've been in contention of winning a lot of races and just haven't done it," Gibbs further added.

Notably, Ty Gibbs has been consistent with his performance coming into 2026. Thanks to the win, he moved to fourth place in the drivers' standings with 286 points. Gibbs has five top fives and six top 10s in eight races, signifying his consistency.

As the #54 JGR driver celebrated his win, his grandfather and the JGR team owner, Joe Gibbs, were also present at the tarmac while the team celebrated. During his interview after the race, he remembered his son as he went on to hail the experience as one of his best.

In the post-race interview with FOX Sports, Mr. Gibbs mentioned his son, who passed away, saying he would have loved the moment.

"This is one of my best experiences. I think about Coy; he brought Ty up the entire time. I know he's probably watching," Gibbs said.

The win was enormously important for him on a personal level, as the Joe Gibbs Racing driver lost his father, Coy Gibbs, in 2022, just hours after he lifted the Xfinity Series championship. His mother, Heather Gibbs, could not hold her emotions as well, as she came running and hugged Gibbs as soon as her son stopped the car.

However, it'll be really interesting to see what this has for Ty Gibbs going ahead.
